Chrissy Teigen is setting the record straight about one of her recent viral videos.
During a joint interview with her husband John Legend at the City Harvest Gala in New York City on April 10, the cookbook author, 38, clarified the intention behind her recent satirical video.
In the funny skit posted to her Instagram, Teigen shared how she traveled to China to get $900 worth of wagyu steak and short ribs from Legend’s favorite butcher. Back home in Los Angeles, she prepared short ribs for him.
The video featured Teigen hysterically narrating the process of cooking the meal, which she said she’d “truly been making for my family since 2008.”

“The more and more I did it, I realized that I do this all the time, realistically,” Teigen told PEOPLE at the gala. “So it’s not even mocking anybody. It’s actually a lifestyle that I love, and I want to be a part of.”
The video featured the Cravings: Hungry For More author chopping veggies, struggling to get the pot of short ribs in the oven and gushing over her perfect family in a mocking tone all while Legend looked on, kissing her or offering a pat on the behind every so often.
But she did take breaks to watch Vanderpump Rules and got a massage while prepping sweet potatoes.
“The more I narrated this the more I realized this is only barely a joke and I actually do this and have been doing this!? 😭 am I trad !?! I accept,” the mom of four captioned the video, using shorthand for traditional.

Although the clip was clearly a joke, Legend told PEOPLE that Teigen actually does turn their family meals into a labor of love.
“She loves to take time with meals and put care into it,” he said, adding that the video is a “massive hit.”
