There sure have been a lot of “Jolene” headlines in the news lately, and that is testament to the staying power of the song.
Dolly Parton knocked it out of the park when she sang it, and Beyone has brought it back in a big way with her own special touch.
Parton approves. Most folks love the song.
Joy Behar of “The View” doesn’t fall into the “most folks” category on this one, though.
Behar does apparently like Beyonce’s revised version, but she isn’t too hot on Dolly’s original.
“I like the subject, Beyonce taking over the lyrics,” Behar said on the show. “The original thing with Dolly Parton — I mean, it’s so, like anti-feminist, worrying about some good-looking woman taking our man.”
Which brings us to the Reba McEntire. She is country royalty, so TMZ asked her about Behar’s take on Parton’s classic.
Her response was interesting. Perhaps, telling.
McEntire was first asked about Beyonce and what she was doing for country music.
“Oh, lot’s of great things,” McEntire said. “I think she is wonderful and am glad to have her in country.”
The reporter then mentioned that Behar said she liked Beyonce’s version better because Parton’s was “anti-feminist.”
McEntire immediately started laughing.
“What do you think about that?” the reporter asked.
“It’s a beautiful day isn’t it?” McEntire said still laughing.
The reporter got in one more question before McEntire hopped in her ride, asking her if she preferred one over the other.
“No,” she said
