For these past few decades, Oda’s work has not been only limited to Weekly Shonen Jump. His masterpiece has turned into a worldwide sensation through various ways such as anime, video game releases, light novels, and even Netflix’s live-action show.

Eiichiro Oda Proposed Naming His Editors’ Newborns ‘Thousand Sunny’

Eiichiro Oda‘s dedication and creativity for One Piece are well-known. There were occasions when even his editors had to tell him no because he came up with some really weird ideas. One time, in particular, was about a strange suggestion from Oda that his editors quickly rejected for good reasons.

In a recent tweet from @sandman_AP, it says that when two editors of Oda had babies, he suggested naming their children “Thousand Sunny,” similar to the name of Straw Hat Pirates’ ship in One Piece. But the editors rejected this weird idea right away.

This demonstrates Oda’s complete commitment to the One Piece universe, willing to go to any extent required in order to show proper respect for this greatly cherished tale. Also, this event is not the initial instance in which Oda’s editors must handle his unique ideas.

During a previous interview, an ex-One Piece editor called Kawashima recalled Oda telling him “Prepare to die for One Piece” when they initially met. He suggested that if an editor’s well-being was harmed due to overworking because of him then it would be his duty to look after their family’s financial needs personally.

Eiichiro Oda Married An Actress Who Played Nami In Real-Life

The dedication of Eiichiro Oda to One Piece is very strong, he even got married to an actress who portrayed the character Nami.

Chiaki Inaba acted as Nami in the One Piece stage show at Jump Festa 2002. Oda met her there and began dating, which later resulted in their wedding in 2004.

Still, while the mangaka marrying the real-life version of his character might seem like a perfect fit, Oda is a private person and doesn’t share much about his personal life. It’s true that he and Inaba have an affectionate relationship. But, Oda has to live away from his family because of the demanding work schedule on One Piece.
