Charlie Hunnam, known for his roles in Green Street and Sons of Anarchy, has revealed that he was once offered the opportunity to play the iconic DC character Green Arrow in a live-action adaptation. Despite the allure of joining the Justice League on screen, Hunnam turned down the role due to his reservations about donning the green spandex.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com during a press event for his upcoming movie Rebel Moon, directed by Zack Snyder, Hunnam disclosed the surprising revelation. While he never directly discussed the role with Snyder, Hunnam recalled being approached by “some people in suits” who pitched the idea of him portraying Green Arrow. However, Hunnam did not share their enthusiasm for the character.
Hunnam’s reluctance stemmed from his lack of familiarity with Green Arrow and his apprehension about wearing the iconic green suit. Admitting that he wasn’t well-versed in the character’s background, Hunnam humorously remarked that he wasn’t convinced green was his color and that spandex wasn’t his material of choice. Ultimately, upon seeing an image of Green Arrow for the first time, Hunnam politely declined the offer.
The exact timing of the offer remains unclear, leaving open the possibility that it could have been during Zack Snyder’s tenure in the DC Extended Universe or for James Gunn’s upcoming reboot. Regardless, Hunnam’s decision to pass on the role of Green Arrow underscores his commitment to roles that resonate with him personally.
