Oda’s one particular comment about the eye patch pirate was translated and shared by @Sandman_AP on X. Oda confessed that he has been itching to draw a pirate with an eye patch who will make an appearance in the final phase of One Piece.

Oda stated:

“A pirate with an eye patch will appear in the final phase of One Piece. I’m itching to draw that character as soon as possible. Maybe people have a preconception that many pirates wear eye patches, but actually, I’ve never drawn any pirates with eye patches.”

In the translation, Oda pointed out that many people assume that the ideal physical appearance of a pirate requires him to have an eye patch, and although One Piece currently does not have any such pirates, soon there will be one who might bring a big twist to the One Piece narrative.

Fans Believe That The Pirate With An Eye Patch Will Be Luffy

After Eiichiro Oda’s comment about the “eye patch pirate” was shared on X, fans flooded the comments section with their assumptions about who the mysterious character could be and how he would be relevant to the conclusion of One Piece. There were many contenders for this role, but the most assumed character was Luffy.

Many fans believe that Luffy would lose one of his eyes while fighting one of the villains of One Piece, and this would lead to him wearing the eye patch.

Luffy being the protagonist is the perfect character for Oda to fulfill his wish for drawing the eye patch pirate. There are already theories about how losing one eye helps strengthen Haki abilities.

 

While there is a good chance that Luffy could be the eye patch pirate in One Piece, Oda’s talent for foreshadowing cannot be underestimated. However, the series has already entered the final phase, therefore the mysterious character would soon make an appearance in One Piece.
