Eminem recently celebrated a significant milestone in his journey of sobriety. The iconic rapper, aged 51, took to Instagram to announce that he has been sober for 16 years. Without any commentary, he posted a photo of himself holding a recovery chip inscribed with the words “Unity, service, and recovery.”

Eminem, born Marshall Mathers, has maintained his sobriety since April 2008. His bаttle with addiction to Ambien, Vаlium, and Vicodin persisted from 2002 to 2008, as documented by Rolling Stone.

Reflecting on his harrowing experience of a near-fatal Ԁrug overdose in 2007, where he consumed “75 (or) 80 Vаlium a night,” Eminem confessed on the “Paul Pod: Curtain Call 2” podcast in 2022 that he is uncertain how he survived. Following his recovery, he released his sixth studio album, “Relapse,” in the subsequent year.

Eminem expressed profound contentment after detoxing from Ԁrugs, sharing that creating “Relapse” marked the first time in a while that he genuinely enjoyed recording music, despite having to reacquaint himself with the art of rapping.

“It took a long time for my brain to start working again,” he acknowledged.

The rapper has regularly commemorated his sobriety milestones on social media. In April 2020, he joyfully announced reaching 12 years of sobriety with a tweet proclaiming, “Clean dozen, in the books!” He referenced his song “Not Afraid,” asserting, “I’m not afraid.”

In the lyrics of “Not Afraid,” Eminem declares, “It was my decision to get clean. I did it for me. Admittedly, I probably did it subliminally for you, so I could come back a brand new me.”

Eminem’s latest post about his sobriety garnered an outpouring of support from his fans and peers. Music manager Paul Rosenberg expressed his pride, commenting, “Sweet 16. So proud of you.” Nathan Mathers, Eminem’s brother, hailed him as the “greatest influence and mentor,” while chef Andrew Zimmern conveyed his admiration, saying, “Love it my brother. Stay awesome.”

Eminem’s most recent studio album, “Music to Be Murdered By,” was released in 2020. During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in March, Dr. Dre hinted that Eminem is diligently working on a new album, set to be released later in the year.
