English soccer legend Beckham changed American soccer when he signed with LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007.
As part of a deal to move to MLS, at that time the player wore the famous number 7 shirt.
The Three Lions agreed to reduce their salary, from 16.6 million pounds to 5.4 million pounds per year.
However, the transfer gave Beckham the opportunity to create his own team when he retired and was awarded a spot in MLS for only £19.7 million.
The only obstacle for Beckham was not being able to establish a football team in New York, and so the legend of Man Utd and Real chose to establish Inter Miami in 2018.
Beckham co-owns Inter Miami with American billionaire Jorge Mas.
The team’s popularity is constantly increasing with the appearance of superstar Lionel Messi helping all the eyes of the football world turn to them.
There has been a “Messi craze” in the US and the team’s value has increased 74% compared to last year after signing a contract with the Argentina captain.
Following Messi, Inter Miami added former Barcelona stars such as Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez, thereby helping the team become more prosperous.
According to Sportico, Inter Miami is currently worth about 803 million pounds. Inter Miami has risen 7 places on the list of MLS’s most valuable teams.
Only Los Angeles FC and Atlanta United are worth more than Beckham’s team. Inter Miami is currently worth 16 million pounds more than LA Galaxy, Beckham’s former team.
On the field, Inter Miami ranked 14th on the Eastern rankings of 15 teams last season. They won their first trophy – the League Cup.
And Beckham’s team started the 2024 season promisingly, topping the table after five matches, and also reaching the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League.
