Convinced Britain’s Got Talent fans think they have spotted year’s winner on the opening weekend.

The show returned on Saturday and Sunday with some headline acts with a number already provoking the emotions. But there was one hopeful who stood out for many – including the judges. Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and hosts Ant and Dec pushed their Golden Buzzers and it was Amanda’s pick that really had an impact.

Singer Sydnie Christmas showed off her incredible singing voice and floored the crowd with her personality, even if Simon Cowell wasn’t totally sold. He wasn’t impressed by her song choice of ‘Tomorrow’ from the Annie musical after Sydnie said it is her dream to perform in the West End.

Wowed Amanda said: “Sydnie I think for me, what struck me so much about you is how naturally funny, how brilliant, how warm your presence was the minute you walked on the stage. How you were entertaining everyone but then you brought us the most heartfelt, beautiful version of that song, and that was the best version I’ve heard in my life.”

Alesha was also very impressed and added: “You are full of character, personality, you’ve got it all going on. Say no more, girl! Smashed it, let’s have it!” Her performance went down very well with those watching on their sofas too and many called that she could be an early shout for the crown.

One simply said on X: “There’s the winner” with another also sold writing: “She has to win!” A third person then said: “She’s got me in floods of tears. I’ve never cried at a BGT act in a long long time. I thought she was going to be a comic when she came on, but caught me off guard. Well deserved, you girl, are going very VERY far.”

She certainly has plenty of competition. Ravi’s Dream Team have shared the heartbreaking reason behind their audition and poignant plans if they were to win the £250,000 prize money. Alesha Dixon was left sobbing as she hit the Golden Buzzer for the choir led by eight-year-old Ravi, who has a brain tumour, on Sunday night.

Ravi’s Dream Team, a choir of people ranging from age five to 78, fronted by eight-year-old Ravi, were put straight through to the semi-finals when judge Alesha, 45, hit the special buzzer. Prior to the emotional performance, where the choir sung A Million Dreams from hit 2017 film The Greatest Showman, Ravi introduced himself and his sister, mother and father on stage.

Explaining his reasons for auditioning during Sunday’s show, Ravi said: “I’ve watched BGT all my life and always wanted to audition for it. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumour and I’m here to show no matter what life throws at you, you can still achieve your dreams.”
