The BET Awards, which air on the BET network on June 28, celebrate the achievements of African Americans and other minorities in music and entertainment as well as sports.

The nominations come one day after both Brown and Minaj made headlines at the Billboard music Awards in Las Vegas – but for different reasons.

The 26-year-old R&B artist created a buzz when he showed up on the red carpet with his 11-month-old daughter Royalty as his date.

While Minaj, 32, raised eyebrows and got a standing ovation from the crowd for her very sexy performance on stage of Hey Mama.

Riding high: Brown was nominated for best male R&B/pop artist as well as for his music and videos with other artists. The 26-year-old showed off his 11-month-old daughter Royalty at the Billboard Awards

Brown has two music videos in contention for video of the year – Loyal and New Flame – and Minaj is competing in the same category with Anaconda.

Also nominated for video of the year are Beyonce’s 7/11, Big Sean’s IDFWU and Common and John Legend’s Oscar-winning Glory, from the film Selma.
