“It definitely fired me”: Flau’jae Johnson on her true feelings watching Angel Reese realise pro dreams in 2024 WNBA draft

Angel Reese, Flau

Flau’jae Johnson is proud of Angel Reese after WNBA Draft.

Angel Reese made her teammate Flau’jae Johnson proud when she got drafted into the WNBA. Johnson talked about her feelings when she saw Reese up there and expressed her pride in her LSU teammate’s achievement. She also called it a win for everybody and revealed that the duo had a chat after it happened.

Reese went to the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Draft at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York on Monday.

She has a great college career, etching her name in the LSU and women’s basketball folklore forever. According to Johnson, Reese’s selection in the draft has fired her up to achieve that dream for herself.

Here is what Flau’jae Johnson said about her LSU teammate Angel Reese getting picked into the WNBA.

“It has definitely fired me like, she was literally my teammate in college and now she is pursuing her dream in the draft which is also a dream of mine.

When her name got called, I felt like it was a win for everybody. I was so proud of her, I told her congratulations,” Johnson told Kevin Hart on NBA Unplugged.

The Tigers guard called Reese ‘legendary’ for what she did as an LSU women’s basketball player. She said that she felt like being on the stage when the ‘Bayou Barbie’s name was called.

“I felt like I was up there at the draft. I was so happy for her,” she added.

While Reese became the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft, Johnson has some time left before she can follow her friend to live the dream. For now, she will be leading the Lady Tigers next season and try to win another national title.

Angel Reese and her desire to be a rookie again

Angel Reese had an option to return to LSU for another season if she wanted to. Many fans would have liked that.

But the star player ditched that thought and decided to go into the draft. Revealing the thoughts behind the decision, she said that she wanted to be a rookie again.

“Coming back would have been amazing for me, but I wanted it more for myself. I wanted to start over. I feel like I’ve been on a high since the [2023] national championship. I wanna hit rock-bottom. I wanna be a rookie again. I wanna be knocked down by vets. I wanna get up and grow and be a sponge,” she said on the matter.

Angel Reese helped LSU win the national title in 2023, by overcoming Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the final. This season, however, the Tigers crashed out of the Elite Eight as the Hawkeyes completed their revenge.
