LOVE IS REAL. 😭😭😭

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are easily one of Hollywood’s most notable couples. The Voice coach and his supermodel wife are known for their candid, fun-loving relationship and totally adorable kids. But their road to happiness took a lot of patience (and multiple music videos) to come together.

John (who’s real name is John Roger Stephens) and Chrissy, 33, first met in 2006, when a mutual friend suggested John cast Chrissy in his “Stereo” video. “The shoot was pretty up close and personal, and I got to know her big personality,” John, now 40, told Martha Stewart Weddings. “It’s not the normal way to court someone, but hey, it worked.”

Chrissy has a slightly different description of the encounter, admitting to Cosmo that the pair shared In-N-Out burgers after the 14-hour shoot and stayed together after, parting ways the next day. But it would be another year before they made things official, as John was busy on tour.

“I let him be himself for a while,” she told the magazine, adding that they continued to text and stay in touch after the shoot. “The worst thing you can do is try to lock someone like that down early on, and then have them think, ‘There’s so much more out there.’”

So, she “played it cool,” which clearly worked out for the Sports Illustrated model and cookbook author. But her plan wasn’t without its downsides—at one point John tried to call it quits with her.

“He was on tour and his voice hurt and he was being a whiney face about everything and so yeah, I was like ‘no,’” she wrote in a tweet.

Luckily, their “breakup” lasted less than a day, leading to their eventual engagement in the Maldives in 2011. They planned an extravagant ceremony at Lake Como for September 14, 2013—seven years and one day after they first met. But, in true John and Chrissy fashion, they actually surprised everyone by tying the knot a few days earlier at a courthouse in New York, according to Time.

“We are dumb and didn’t realize that our Italian wedding would not be recognized unless we had a real ceremony in New York City,” she said. Bradley Cooper’s girlfriend, Irina Shayk, was the witness!

In April 2016, Chrissy and John welcomed their first child, daughter Luna. The now 2-year-old was joined by her younger brother, Miles, in May 2018. The couple constantly posts proud photos of their kids (who look like John and Chrissy mini-mes, by the way), only providing more evidence that they are the cutest family around.
