SCREEN COUPLE: MARK WAHLBERG AND ROSE BYRNE IN INSTANT FAMILY

The studio behind new film Instant Family might have stumped up enough cash to cast Mark Wahlberg, but fans were left thinking it should have spent more money on advertising after seeing a recent poster for the film.

Stand-up comic Alex Kealy posted a picture of the movie’s promotional material on the side of a bus, calling out what might just be the laziest tagline in film history.

Are Movies Eco-Friendly?

Instant Family, the story of an American couple who foster three young children, is described, simply, as “A Feel-Good Movie For Everyone” — a broad and almost entirely meaningless sell, only a little above “A Film, For Humans”.

True, the ‘everyone’ deographic is about as lucrative as it gets, but it’s difficult not to think filmmakers should have narrowed their reach just a touch with this one. It’s hard to believe the poster got signed off in the first place, given it resembles filler text rather than a thoughfully constructed bit of marketing.

It’s hardly “Who Ya Gonna Call?” or “In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream”. Perhaps Wahlberg should have allocated a little time to writing straplines in his insane daily schedule.

Not that any of this seems to have deterred fans. Instant Family, which also stars Rose Byrne, Octavia Spencer and Joan Cusack, currently has an impressive 84 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is released in UK cinemas on February 14. Watch a trailer below.
