Singer Miley Cyrus gave in to temptation and was seen lighting up a joint while performing on stage at the MTV EMAs. Not only that, she also danced suggestively with a dwarf during the event.
The 20-year old pop sensation also clinched the Best Video prize for her chart-topping track “Wrecking Ball” at a star-studded event featuring other big-name artists like Eminem and Katy Perry.
Taking the stage at the space-themed extravaganza, Cyrus kicked things off with her hit “We Can’t Stop” while sporting a shiny silver outfit and showing off her twerking skills alongside her backup dancer.
The audience at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome went wild as Cyrus ended her performance with her signature tongue-out pose, a nod to her memorable appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York a few months back.
And to cap off her successful night, the singer celebrated by lighting up a joint on stage and taking a quick puff, much to the delight of her fans.
In the Netherlands, marijuana is not legally allowed, but individuals can possess small amounts without fear of prosecution. It is openly sold in cafes referred to as “coffee shops.”
Cyrus, known for shedding her innocent image from her days on “Hannah Montana,” openly enjoys Amsterdam’s attractions. Prior to the show, she spent time at the Greenhouse coffee shop in the city center, accompanied by other celebrities.
During a live performance of “Wrecking Ball,” Cyrus sported marijuana leaf emblems on her earphones as she sang against a backdrop of herself crying on a large video screen.
The MTV EMAs typically showcase global pop music acts, though there is often overlap with U.S. artists. Winners at the event included Bruno Mars for Best Song with “Locked Out of Heaven” and Eminem, who received awards for Best Hip Hop and Global Icon.
The show with an outer space theme is set to air again in the United States later on Sunday. Katy Perry was also another winner, taking home the award for Best Female Artist. Perry seemed shocked by her win, spitting out her champagne before taking the stage to express her gratitude to her fans. In a previous performance, Perry was seen suspended by wires with green lasers bouncing off her reflective outfit as she sang “Unconditional.”
After dropping his latest album after a long break, Eminem showed that his rapping skills are still top-notch as he delivered a rapid-fire performance of “Rap God.” Accepting his Global Icon award, he was surprised to hear from “Anchorman” character Ron Burgundy (played by Will Ferrell) that Dutch DJ Afrojack had been talking smack about him. Eminem’s response? A cool and collected “Who?”
