The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Bronny James is the son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar and NBA legend LeBron James. The 19-year-old announced earlier this month that he was declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft and entering the transfer portal, keeping his options open.

Dru Joyce III, a close friend of LeBron James, is the current head coach of the Duquesne Dukes men’s basketball team. In fact, Joyce and the four-time NBA Champion attended St. Vincent-St. Mary High School together in Akron, Ohio.

Joyce dropped a major hint that Bronny is planning to transfer by posting a GIF of himself copying LeBron’s signature pre-game “powder toss” ritual:

So of course, fans can’t help but wonder if Joyce is letting folks know that Bronny James is about to switch schools as opposed to entering the 2024 NBA Draft:

In his first college basketball season, Bronny appeared in 25 games and averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He shot 36.6 percent from the field and made 26.7 percent of three-point attempts.

Bronny James Should Return To College

As antsy as Bronny James may be to make the jump to the NBA, his mediocre production at USC proves that he’d be better off returning to college for at least another year.

If you look at several expert rankings around the web, you’ll see that James isn’t even ranked as a top 30 or 40 prospect. Truth be told, a team that drafts Bronny will likely do so with the hope that it’ll enhance their chances of landing LeBron down the road.

Bronny’s best move is to transfer to a school that will give him more playing time in 2024-25. By showcasing his talents in an increased role, Bronny’s draft stock can only improve next year compared to where it lies at this moment.
