REBEL MOON Director Zack Snyder Teases An Ambitious Six-Movie Plan For His Netflix Sci-Fi Saga

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver arrives on Netflix today, and filmmaker Zack Snyder has now shared his ambitious plans to make as many as six movies set in the world of his new sci-fi franchise…

With the DC Extended Universe now in his rearview (whether he likes it or not), Zack Snyder has shifted focus to a lucrative Netflix deal which has allowed him to expand the Dawn of the Dead franchise and launch a sci-fi franchise with Rebel Moon.

The first instalment, A Child of Fire, received largely negative reviews but was supposedly a ratings hit (the filmmaker even claimed viewership numbers on streaming would translate into $1.6 billion at the box office). Now, with the second chapter and two director’s cuts on the way, Snyder has shed new light on his ambitious plans for the franchise.

“I guess four makes sense. Four or six movies, depending…I guess it’s whether or not every time we make one of these movies we make two, that’s the question,” he told Radio Times (via SFFGazette.com) of his plans for Rebel Moon moving forward.

“We were talking about it the other day and I was like, would an audience be disappointed if they only got one movie now from Rebel Moon?” Snyder added. “Would they be like, ‘Oh, it’s one now? Great.’”

Rebel Moon – Part Three has not been greenlit by Netflix, but Snyder already has a pretty good idea of where he’d like to take a story originally pitched to Lucasfilm as a samurai-inspired Star Wars movie.

“We absolutely have the story all set, we did all that work,” he teases. “We wrote a treatment for the movie so we’ll see how we go ahead.”

Snyder was quick to add that, despite his threequel hopes, The Scargiver will be a satisfying conclusion to the story. “I think the first thing is that people are going to really get this next chapter that really takes and answers all these questions from Part One, and really sort of completes this four-hour experience.”

Only time will tell what the future holds in store for Rebel Moon, though we’ve previously heard of plans for spin-offs, podcasts, video games, and more. Whether those materialise will hinge on the upcoming sequel’s success.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle, the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver starts streaming on Netflix on April 19.
