ALISON Hammond fought back tears on For the Love of Dogs after being moved by pooch’s catastrophic injury.

The TV presenter – who took over from Paul O’Grady – returned for the second episode of the new series.

She met a two-year-old stray Saluki who was found abandoned in a cemetery with broken bones

Pluto underwent a five-hour surgery in a desperate bid to save his leg.

However, the infection was too severe and the dog went under for a life-changing operation to amputate.

After meeting Pluto for the first time since losing his leg, Alison, 49, was on hand to help keep this brave boy’s spirits up while being cared for by Battersea’s expert teams.

She found the moment challenging, as she admitted: “I’m getting emotional.

“It’s quite striking seeing a big dog with only three legs.”

Viewers were also upset by Pluto’s suffering, with one saying: “Not me crying over Pluto! Aw.”

Another said: “Oh my! I’m so happy for Pluto. From sad tears to happy tears. Be happy sweetheart. XX”

Elsewhere in the episode, Alison met a three-year-old Frenchie called Duchess.

The flat-faced breed was struggling with her breathing and Alison helped by holding a special calming session for her so she can stay chilled out and relaxed.

She also got hands on when she gave a five-year-old Bichon Frise, Dougal, a haircut after his fur became matted.

He underwent a makeover to help him look his best while he searches for a new home.
