A former MTV executive has said that Hollywood icon Jennifer Lopez was supposed to be a part of the famous VMA kiss but was forced to pull out due to a scheduling conflict

It has been reported that Madonna originally asked Jennifer Lopez to kiss her at the 2003 Video Music Awards along with Britney Spears.
Ex-MTV President Van Toffler told Rolling Stone that the controversial Queen of pop invited Jenny from the block on stage to take part in the kiss but she couldn’t attend due to a scheduling conflict.
The performance featured Britney, Missy Elliott and Christina Aguilera smooching Madonna and it went down as one of the most memorable events in pop culture.
Van told the outlet: “It’s just quintessential Madonna. She had a history of pushing us and pushing culture, and that’s what was great about her and what was great about MTV.
“We pushed culture in provocative ways.”

According to the MTV executive Madonna chose Jennifer Lopez and Britney because they were “the best young dancers around” and he was “fearful that the performance was in jeopardy” before Christina took Jen’s place
In January Jennifer spoke to E!News about how she was supposed to be involved in the threeway smooch.
She said: “Yes, that is actually true I was filming a movie in Canada.
“We had met – me, her [Madonna] and Britney – to do it, at [Madonna’s] home. I just couldn’t get off the film, so we couldn’t do it. Then they got Christina Aguilera, I think, to do it.”

She added: “I didn’t wind up doing it, but yeah, we had talked about it… I love Madonna, I’m a huge fan, I always have been.”
In the past Christina has admitted that she was annoyed that when she kissed Madonna onstage her moment was partially cut out.
The singing sensation previously said: “It was weird. And you know why they cut away for it? Because they cut away to get Justin [Timberlake’s] reaction.”

Talking about cutting the kiss the former MTV executive told Rolling Stone: “That caused a little bit of grief coming my way.
“It didn’t make life easier that night, but you have to make choices in a live show. Sometimes you’re wrong and sometimes you’re right, but I think the beauty of the VMAs was the combustibility.
“You wanted to make it fun and semi-chaotic. That’s what we did.”
