SNOOP DOGG HONORS DR. DRE WITH ICON AWARD: ‘WE MAKE MAGIC TOGETHER’ by RUTH HAWKINS

Snoop Dogg has praised his longtime friend and music maker Dr. Dre while granting him a prestigious award.

Snoop Dogg Hung up on Dr. Dre the First Time Dre Called Him

On Thursday (June 22), the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rhymer attended the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards Celebration of 50 Years of Hip Hop in Los Angeles, where he presented Dre with the inaugural Hip Hop Icon Award.

“There is nobody like Dr. Dre,” said Snoop. “It’s almost unfair how many times he’s revolutionized music.

If Dre had only been a member of N.W.A, we’d still remember him forever. If he had only given us The Chronic, he’d still be a Hip Hop legend.

“He’s earned eight Grammys, sold millions of records, founded some of the most successful businesses in music, but Dr. Dre has never stopped working. [He] never stopped pushing the music forward. And I can honestly say that Dr. Dre has changed my life in so many ways.”

“There’s a reason why I keep coming back to Dr. Dre,” Snoop continued, briefly touching on the dynamic duo’s bond. “We make magic together. We’ve been doing this shit for over three decades, and we still at it. Trust me, the best is yet to come.”

Remarks, the Aftermath Entertainment founder echoed himself, during his acceptance speech. “Can you imagine how difficult it is to maintain a friendship in this business for 30 years?” Dr. Dre asked the crowd. “It’s crazy. But that’s my bro!”

The West Coast icon went on to say it was an honor to be recognized as a Hip Hop icon — “someone worthy of respect” — before doing the math where he realized he’s been in the game for “40 of its [Hip Hop] 50 years.”

Dr. Dre’s Excitement For New Snoop Dogg Album Reportedly Matches That Of ‘The Chronic’

Meanwhile, days ahead of the ceremony, The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) had announced why Dre would be crowned their freshman recipient, noting his “groundbreaking” work across Hip Hop.

“Dr. Dre’s groundbreaking early work laid a foundation for Hip-Hop as we know it today. As a champion for some of today’s biggest artists and a successful entrepreneur, he changed the culture around Hip-Hop,” said ASCAP chairman of the board and president Paul Williams in a statement.

“Dre continues to be a pivotal figure in the music industry and we are thrilled to recognize him with the inaugural ASCAP Hip-Hop Icon Award as we mark 50 years of Hip-Hop.”

Dre’s latest award comes after he was given the inaugural Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 65th Annual Grammy’s in February.

The award was created in partnership with the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective and “recognizes the contributors, creatives and professionals with a proven track record of uplifting Black music.”

In 2010, ASCAP bestowed its Founders Award to Dr. Dre — considered to be its “most prestigious honor.”
