VIDEO: Angel Reese Delivers Powerful Response Explaining Why She Chose The WNBA Over Staying One More Season With LSU

Angel Reese talking to reporters

Angel Reese will be taking her talents to Windy City following the 2024 WNBA Draft.

An emotional Reese walked off stage after being drafted by the Chicago Sky with the seventh pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft and was greeted by LSU coach Kim Mulkey.

Later on, during her press conference, Reese got insanely deep when speaking about why she decided to forgo her final year of eligibility at LSU and jump to the WNBA.

“I wanted more for myself,” Reese said, via Forthewin.com. “I wanted to start over. I feel like I have been at a high since the national championship, and I want to hit rock bottom. I want to be a rookie again. I want to be knocked down by vets, and I want to be able to get up and grow and be a sponge. I’m just super excited to play with amazing players and against amazing players. This league is really competitive, and I’m a competitive player, so I want to play against the best players.”

Angel Reese had the opportunity to return to the LSU Tigers for one more season because of her extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as she stated, she wanted a new challenge in her career after back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances with the Tigers and winning the 2023 national championship.

The 6-foot-3 forward will join the Sky alongside No. 3 overall pick and former South Carolina standout Kamilla Cardoso, who was part of the physical SEC championship game against LSU just last month.

South Carolina ended up taking a 79-72 win before that would win the ultimate prize in the 2024 March Madness final against Caitlin Clark’s Iowa.

Angel Reese Has The Opportunity To Turn The Chicago Sky Franchise Around

The Chicago Sky finished under .500 last year with an 18-22 season and got dismantled by eventual champions Las Vegas Aces in the playoffs. The Ski lost both games by 20+.

Angel Reese has a chance to return the Sky to their glory days as they won the WNBA Finals in 2021. Reese and Kamilla Cardoso have that “it” factor that makes any team fear playing them night in and night out.
