A woman was left seriously ill in hospital after drinking a coffee from a vending machine in an airport – only to discover her drink was full of insects.
The woman, who is 21 and works for an airline company, bought the drink from a vending machine at Son Sant Joan airport near Palma in Majorca on Monday.
After a few mouthfuls she noticed the coffee tasted strange – and when she looked inside the cup she found a swarm of insects, according to Spanish news site Ultima Hora.
She then went into anaphylactic shock as her face swelled and her throat closed, leaving her struggling to breathe, as her skin swelled in multiple areas.
She was rushed to hospital after being given adrenaline and other treatment by airport staff, and spent 36 hours in intensive care before being released on Wednesday.
Her family have now filed a complaint against the airport to national police, saying the presence of bugs in the coffee machine is a possible crime against public health and reckless injuries.

They also claim the machine, which has now been removed from service, must have been poorly maintained by airport staff.
Airport management has reportedly opened an investigation, and the company which provided the machine has been ordered to check all of its machines.
